Co-Curricular and Community-Based Learning Activities at Frere Kindergarten

“We, the Children, Express Our Language and Draw a Smile”

As part of the ongoing community-based educational initiatives led by Bethlehem University, the Faculty of Education and the Arabic Language Department, under the supervision of Dr. Ziyad Bani Shamsa, organized a dynamic and engaging field activity at Frere Kindergarten. The event was held in close collaboration with Ms. Marlene Bandak, the kindergarten principal, and the dedicated team of teachers.

The activity began with educational drama using multimedia tools, featuring performances themed around the seasons of winter and spring, as well as a creative play titled “The Word Seller”, all performed by student-teachers from the Faculty of Education specializing in Arabic Language Teaching Methods.

The day continued with an interactive storytelling session on hygiene and the importance of water, where the university students enacted the role of water in daily life and engaged the children with participatory questions that sparked imagination and learning.

The activity concluded with a motivational and intellectual game themed “The Zoo”, which encouraged cognitive and physical interaction among the children.

To end the joyful event, smiles were literally drawn as the children enjoyed face painting, followed by the distribution of gifts and educational prizes—creating moments of happiness and reinforcing the value of learning through play and drama.

Ms. Marlene Bandak, principal of Frere Kindergarten, praised this collaboration with Bethlehem University, highlighting its role in enhancing children’s self-expression and knowledge, while also offering university students meaningful opportunities to engage with the educational community through service learning.
